ABOUT IRAN
Iran is a country in south west Asia. It is bordered by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey and Iraq and to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
With a land area of 1,648,195 km2, it is the second largest country in the Middle East and the 18th largest in the world. With a population of 79.62 million.
Tehran is the country’s capital and largest city, as well as its leading cultural and economic center.
Culture: With a long-standing and proud civilization, Persian culture is among the richest in the world. Two and a half millennia of inspiring literature, thousands of poets and writers, magnificent and impressive architecture, live customs dating back to Zoroastrians over 3,000 years ago, and other unique characteristics of the nation are rivaled by only a few countries.
Language: The majority of the population speak Persian Language, which is also the official language of the country, though a significant portion of the population speaks other languages such as Azari, Kurdish, and Arabic etc.
Climate: Iran’s Climate ranges from arid or semiarid to subtropical along the Caspian coast and the northern forests.
Economy & Industries: Iran is the second largest economy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Iran is ranked as an upper-middle income economy by the World Bank. GDP in Iran was worth 425.33 Billion USD in 2014, representing 0.69 percent of the world’s economy.
The Currency is Iranian Rial.
- Oil, Gas & Petrochemical Industry: Iran’s oil and gas industry is the most active industry of the country. Iran has the fourth largest Oil Reserves, the second largest proved Gas Reserves in the world after Russia, and third Largest Natural Gas Production in the World after Indonesia and Russia. The Petroleum industry is Iran’s economic mainstay. Iran is a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
- Power: Iran has become self-sufficient in designing, building and operating Dams and Power Plants. Iran is one of the six countries in the world that manufacture gas and steam powered turbines.
- Mining and Metals: Iran is one of the most important mineral producers in the world, ranked among 15 major mineral-rich countries. The country holds 68 types of minerals, including Chrome, Lead, Zinc, Copper, Coal, Gold, Tin and Iron.
